Our Doctors believe strongly in obtaining baseline retina pictures on all patients, and we include this at no extra cost for most patients. The pink object with the white center is the optic nerve, actually a part of the brain where we look for early changes due to glaucoma; the white area in the center of the nerve is called "the cup", and gets larger in glaucoma; the dark spot to the left of the optic nerve is the macula, the most sensitive part of the retina which is involved in macular degeneration; the entire orange background is the retina; the dark vessels are retinal veins and the lighter ones are the arteries.

We are happy to copy your own retina pictures to your e-mail address, your primary doctor's e-mail, or directly to any USB device you might bring with you. We believe these photos should be loaded into your health care smart card when they become widely available, along with your other eye history and active prescriptions.
